1. Everyone’s an accidental DBA (or database professional) – what’s your story? How’d you become a SQLPerson?
I started managing an Access database for my father’s welding company in 2000 (I’m a pretty good welder – if I may say so). I learned SQL through ASP development soon after, and began doing independent database design and development throughout college. I’ve been working ‘officially’ as a SQL Server DBA for the last 8 years.
2. What’s your favorite part of your current gig?
My current role with a healthcare company gives me exposure to about every type of OLTP/OLAP application, from charting and hospital menu systems to logistics and newborn IECU systems. It’s a challenging, fast paced environment where complacency isn’t an option.
