1. Everyone’s an accidental DBA (or database professional) – what’s your story? How’d you become a SQLPerson?

I always had an affinity for the role of a DBA, there was always something mythical and mysterious about the role. Over time I worked my way into a junior role and then one day I was given the chance to do it full time. I took that opportunity and ran with it. I think I have done good so far but there is so much further to go.

2. What’s your favorite part of your current gig?

The ability for me to work from home and see more of my family on a daily basis. I may travel a bit more, usually day trips, but the fact I can bring my kids to school, pick them up, bring them to soccer practice, etc. is an amazing thing for me to have. That would be my favorite thing about my job currently.

3. Complete this sentence: “If I could do anything else, I would…”

Be coaching college basketball for a nationally ranked team.

4. Complete this sentence: “When I’m not working I enjoy…”

not working, it really doesn’t matter what I am doing when I am not working, I usually enjoy whatever it is. Sometimes it is being with my family, sometimes reading, sometimes watching a movie. I guess the point is that when I get time away from work I try to enjoy doing whatever it is I am doing.

How quickly it can change and how much those changes allow for us to build connections to others.

6. Complete this sentence: “I look forward to the day when I can use technology to…”

avoid having intrusive screenings and excessive pat-downs by TSA agents. Wouldn’t that be a nice world to live in?
